Every season it’s the same story. You want epic footage, you get excited, and you end up either overspending or buying the wrong action camera entirely.

I started this channel because of action cameras, so this one is personal. It’s not a typical review. It’s a practical, no-BS guide to help you either buy the right camera or realize you don’t even need a new one, and save yourself a lot of money in the process.

We’ll look at:

✔️ which brands are actually worth your money
✔️ why cheap “4K” no-name cameras are a trap
✔️ performance reality check: marketing vs what you actually get
✔️ the low-light myth nobody needed to obsess over
✔️ why size and weight matter more than specs
✔️ why your old camera might already be good enough
✔️ the accessory trap brands want you to fall into
✔️ the one accessory that’s actually worth buying
✔️ where 360 cameras fit in (and where they don’t)
✔️ GoPro vs DJI vs Insta360, my honest brand breakdown

  1. I really appreciate your video, I’m getting an action camera to get to use with Beni from Mondo Robotics. For those who don’t know it’s a robot that follows you around and films you and is action camera compatible with an accessory.

I watched your video and Dji seems like the right choice, I’m glad you mentioned that accessories are often unnecessary because I was looking into it a bit but maybe I don’t need all the bells and whistles. I appreciate your video and thank you for pointing me in the right direction!

  2. I dont think people generally buy multiple action cameras. They are all fairly similar.

Weird that you say these cameras dont shoot real 4k, uuuummmmm yeah they do. They have for over 10 years. You can go back to the gopro hero 3+black that shot 4k at 15fps. Guess what that was???? It was real 4k. Virtually all cameras shoot a bayer type sensor. You have pixels, those get converted into your final video. The vast majority of cameras do NOT interpolate anything. Some junk chinese cameras do. None of the mainsteam cameas are doing that for their normal resolutions. They have had a couple in betweener resolutions you could pick for 4×3 that sometimes did some interpolation to hit a higher framerate, but even in those settings, you could pick a framerate that didnt do any interpolation. In general, the normal modes people shoot at, like any 16×9 mode with a mainstream action camera is actual real 4k like any camera. The quality issues are usually that the sensor is fairly small and you are at a high iso. The grain doesnt mean you are not in real 4k. Interpolation is usually easy to spot where you have straight lines and you can see jaggies down the line. Not sensor noise, thats just noise. China loves to interpolate stuff because they are usually liars, but insta360 vastly is shooting real resolutions. Kandao is a bunch of liars, but even they crank out full resolutions at 8k with cameras like their qoocam 3 ultra. Its real because they are competing with the best resolution for their 360 camera and its obvious that really is real 8k, not just 4k. So, its a crazy claim to say they are all not even real 4k, easily a crazy weird comment. Like people think they bought a gopro that shoots in 4k and it doesnt, it does, for sure, for many many many years. So, if you know your history, which this guy does not, the gopro hero 3+black was basically the first 4k camera most people had ever seen. At 15fps it wasnt usable, but the hero 4black came out with 4k at 30fps and thats what made it the best selling camera in the world. You got REAL 4k when virtually no other camera did 4k at 30fps. I mean, nothing did. Small sensors all did 4k first because it was easier. So, ALL this 4k stuff started with action cameras. It didnt start with big SLRs, it was action cameras shooting real 4k. For years. So, they didnt say, well, we started this 4k thing about 14 years ago but, you know, lets start interpolating it…. yeah, that didnt happen.
