The Smart Home Sensor I've Been Waiting For All Year!

The Aqara FP300 is finally here, and after using it for over a month, I can confidently say this is one of the most versatile smart home sensors available. With dual PIR and millimeter wave detection, Matter support, Thread AND ZigBee connectivity, plus a 2-3 year battery life – this wireless sensor might be exactly what your smart home has been missing.

In this video, I’ll show you everything the FP300 can do, how to set it up, and share my real-world experience using it to automate my bedroom lights (spoiler: it finally got wife approved!).

What Makes the FP300 Special:
✅ Wireless design with 2-3 year battery life
✅ PIR + 60GHz millimeter wave detection
✅ Matter support (works with Apple Home, Google, Alexa, etc.)
✅ Choose between Thread OR ZigBee connection
✅ Built-in light, temperature & humidity sensors
✅ AI spatial learning for better accuracy over time
✅ Adjustable sensitivity and detection range

*UPDATE*
The FP300 sensor is sold out on Amazon due to high demand. It is estimated to be back in stock mid-late December.

I will update with a new discount code once they are back in stock.

  2. I appreciate your equipment reviews, and I purchased four of the FP300s, but I found their performance to be spotty at best. They frequently disconnect and the only solution I have found is to remove and replace the batteries. Sometimes they work for a week, two weeks, a month, then inexplicably disconnect for no apparent rhyme or reason. Sometimes 2, 3, or all 4 FP300s disconnect at the same time. Despite the fact that my home is filled with Smart Home products from many manufacturers, only the Aqara FP300s disconnect.
And when they appear to be connected, sometimes the automations fail. Occupancy based automations turn lights on, but the lights don’t turn off when occupancy is not detected. This is the whole reason why I bought these occupancy-based sensors. Lights turn off, but they don’t turn back on. Apple Home says occupancy is NOT detected but the lights are on. What gives?
Aqara tech-support is friendly, but they tend to focus on room geometry. I could see room geometry being an initial set up issue, but I don’t think things should work for a month then fail due to room geometry. This makes no sense to me.
The unreliability of the FP300 makes it unsuitable for general consumer use. If you are a tinkerer and don’t mind the constant troubleshooting consuming hours of your precious time, then go ahead. For everyone else, I would move on to something else.

  3. So you have it turning the lights on at night when it detects you guys? Do you have a specific time that you set it at or just at night? I don’t want it to randomly go off in the middle of the night. If we get up to use the bathroom

  4. The FP300 “waited all year” story lands — battery PIR + mmWave really does change room automations. If anyone needs another battery Zigbee 24 GHz option for HA (ZHA/Z2M) with lux + temp/humidity on board, I’ve purchased LinknLink’s eMotion Air and it’s been solid in my rooms where I didn’t want another wall wart. Soft mention only — your FP300 walkthrough still stands; this is just for rooms where I wanted a non-Aqara battery path. Would love to see you review Air sometime!
